BLACK BEANS BURGERS
Add your favorite toppings to your burger. I add lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles.

2 cups canned black beans, drained
1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs (or more if too wet)
1/4 cup grated onion
1 tsp. chili powder
1 large egg
1 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder or 1 tsp. fresh minced garlic (optional)
sliced cheese (any kind)
pinch of salt
pinch of cayenne pepper
rolls or buns
oil (for the pan)

Drain and mash the beans. Using a fork, or potato masher to mash the beans in a medium bowl just until they are mushy but still have some whole pieces throughout.

Using your hands mix the breadcrumbs, grated onion, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, egg, salt, and cayenne pepper into the beans. Add a bit of water if your mixture seems too dry.

Preheat a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and add a few tablespoons oil.

Divide the bean mixture into 4 equal balls and form into 4 patties.

Cook the black bean burgers until browned, 4 to 5 minutes on each side.

Note: Make sure you cook your black bean burgers long enough. They do contain egg.

Then add sliced cheese to the patties and you're done.

Serve and enjoy!
