STANDARD BUTTER CAKE 
3 c. sifted cake flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. cold milk
1 c. cold shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Turn oven to 375 degrees. Grease lightly 2 cake pans. Cream shortening, sugar and eggs and vanilla on electric mixer 2-3 minutes at medium speed. Add flour and milk; beat with mixer 1 minute low speed, working batter towards beaters with rubber spatula. Turn mixer high speed, 2 minutes; remove batter from beaters. Pour into cake pans and bake 25- 40 minutes.
