CARAMEL CHOCOLATE SQUARES
1 (14 oz.) pkg. light caramels
1 pkg. German chocolate cake
3/4 c. butter, melted
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 c. (6 oz.) chocolate chips
2/3 c. evaporated milk

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk over low heat on the top of a double boiler until they are melted. Set aside. In large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, butter and 2/3 cup evaporated milk. Stir in nuts by hand, stir until it holds together and is completely combined. Press 1/2 of the dough into a prepared 9 x 13 inch pan that has been prepared with grease and flour. Cook at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and spread those with the caramel. Crumble the reserved dough over the caramel. Return to the oven for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool slightly then refrigerate for 30 minutes to set. Cut into bars. Makes 36 bite-sized pieces.
