CRUMB TOPPED APPLE PIE | |
1/2 c. flour 1/3 c. sugar 1/3 c. softened butter 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. packed brown sugar 2 tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/8 tsp. ginger 1/4 tsp. allspice 2 tsp. grated orange rind also 1 tbsp. orange juice 7 med. size cooking apples, peeled, cored and thin sliced 1 unbaked deep dish 9 inch pie shell Combine 1/2 cup flour and 1/3 cup sugar in a small mixing bowl. Cut in butter until it resembles course meal. Set aside. Combine 1/2 cup sugar, brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, spices, orange rind and orange juice in a large mixing bowl. Add apples tossing lightly to coat evenly. Spoon apple mixture into pastry shell. Sprinkle reserved flour mixture evenly over apples. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake an additional 40 to 50 minutes. Cool before slicing. Serve pie with grated Cheddar cheese if desired. |
