ROMAN APPLE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda, mixed in milk
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. chopped apples or rhubarb

Topping:

1/4 c. white sugar
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. nuts

Mix ingredients in the order listed. Add fruit with the last of the flour. Place batter in baking pan. Mix topping ingredients. Sprinkle on top of batter.

Bake at 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes. Serve warm, plain or with whipped cream.
