CHOCOLATE MERINGUES 
2 egg whites
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (3 1/2 oz.) can shredded coconut (optional)
3/4 c. sugar
1 (6 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1/4 c. chopped walnuts

Beat egg whites, salt, cream of tartar and vanilla at medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Carefully fold in morsels, walnuts and coconut.

Place plain paper (such as white type paper) on baking sheets. Drop mixture by rounded teaspoonfuls onto paper, leaving space between cookies for spreading. Bake 25 minutes, or until delicately golden in 300 degree oven. Cool slightly before removing paper. Yield: 2 to 3 dozen meringues.
