VERY OLD RECIPE FOR YELLOW CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. butter or shortening
4 c. flour
2 eggs
4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla and eggs. Beat well. Add flour alternately with milk. Bake in two (9 inch) pans at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. Frost with your favorite icing.

Note: If self-rising flour is used; leave out the salt and baking powder.
