1/4 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda mixed with 2 tbsp. hot water
1 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 1/2 diced apples

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well. Add soda mixed in water. Combine flour, salt and spices. Fold in nuts and apples last. Bake in 9-inch pie pan or squares for 45 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
