OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. hot water (only if dough is too stiff)
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. oatmeal
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. chocolate chips
Chopped nuts (optional)

Cream shortening and 2 kinds of sugar; blend in 2 eggs; add sifted dry ingredients, then oatmeal, vanilla, and nuts. Add water if dough is too dry to make ball. Pinch off small amount of dough. Wrap 2 chocolate chips inside dough. Shape into balls. Press one chocolate chip on top. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
