SNAILS (VARIATION OF NUTHORNS) | |
1 lb. butter 4 eggs, beaten 6 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. vanilla 1 pkg. dry yeast 1/4 c. warm water 4 c. flour 1 1/2 c. sugar 3 c. ground nuts 1 tbsp. cinnamon Let butter soften at room temperature. Add 4 eggs (beaten), 6 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1 package dry yeast, dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water. Mix together with hands. The mixture will be soft and runny, add 4 cups flour mix well. Put in refrigerator overnight. Separate into 4 balls. Use one at a time. Mix together 1 1/2 cups sugar, 3 cups ground nuts, and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Divide into 4 equal amounts (each portion is a little more than 1 cup). Sprinkle 1 portion of mixture on the counter and roll one dough in it. Turning dough to coat on both sides. Roll into 15 inch circle, cut in 4's, then into 8's, then cut each 8th section into 3 more pieces. You should get 24 pieces from each dough. Start from the wide end and roll to the point. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Yields: 8 dozen. |
