APPLE SPICE PANDOWDY 
4 med.-size apples
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 box spice cake mix
1/3 c. water

Pare, core and slice apples; arrange in buttered 8 inch square baking dish. Dot with butter and sprinkle with sugar. Follow directions on spice cake package, using 1/3 cup of water to half the package, so that batter will be a trifle thicker than for cake. Drop by spoonfuls on top of apples, leaving spaces between for steam to escape. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F.) 35 minutes or until apples are soft and cake springs back to the touch. Serve warm with whipped cream. Makes 6 servings.
