HOLIDAY FRUIT BARS 
2/3 c. soft shortening, part butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
1/4 c. orange juice
2 1/2 c. flour (Gold Medal)
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. raisins
1 c. mixed candied fruit
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Cream shortening, sugar, egg until fluffy. Stir in rind and juice. Measure flour by dip, level, pour method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients, stir into creamed mixture. Mix in fruit and nuts. Pat dough in greased pan 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch. Bake 15 to 18 minutes. Cut into bars. Makes about 3 dozen.
