FROSTY FRUIT BARS 
1/2 c. soft shortening (part butter)
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
1/4 c. pineapple or orange juice
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. nuts, chopped
1 c. candied fruit

Mix thoroughly shortening, sugar, egg, and orange rind. Stir in juice. Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture. Mix in with hand raisins, nuts, and candied fruit. Divide dough in half. Roll out each half on lightly floured board into a 7x12 inch rectangle. Cut into six 2x7 inch strips. Bake on lightly greased cookie sheet 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Strips should be golden brown.

When cool, spread with confectioners' sugar icing. Cut into bars.

My mother started making these cookies in the mid-1950's at Christmas time. They were my favorite and now, 60 years later, I make them at Christmas time for my grandchildren. This recipe make 5 dozen cookies.
