GINGERBREAD COOKIES 
2/3 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. dark molasses
1 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 tsp. baking soda
2/3 c. butter
1 egg
5 c. sifted flour

Heat sugar, molasses and spices to boiling point. Stir in soda; pour mixture over butter in bowl. Stir until butter melts. Beat in the egg. Add flour, blend thoroughly. Knead on board until well blended. Roll out on cookie sheets and cut with fancy cutters. Remove excess dough. Bake at 325 degrees for 10 minutes or until firm. Remove to racks to cool. Decorate as desired. Yield: 100.
