PEPPER AND ONION STEAK OVER RICE
Steak:

1 lb. steak (sirloin-round/rib eye-cube), cut in strips
1 lg. sweet green pepper, cut in strips
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 lg. onion, sliced
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/3 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/4 tsp. crushed hot peppers (optional)
1 1/2 c. water
1 tablespoon ketchup

Brown steak in skillet. Add onion and sauté until translucent. Add remaining ingredients. Cover; cook on low 15 minutes. While cooking, make rice and gravy (see below).

Rice:

1 c. rice
2 c. water
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. butter

Place the above 4 ingredients into a 2 quart saucepan. Heat over high heat until water boils. Cover and reduce heat to low; cook 15 minutes or until rice is tender.

Remove from heat, leaving covered (stir with fork before serving).

Gravy:

2 cups water
1/2 cup flour
1-2 beef bouillon cubes or 1 teaspoon beef soup base
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 tablespoon onion soup mix (optional)
1/4 tsp. Gravy Master or soy sauce (optional)

While rice is cooking, in a separate saucepan, combine 2 cups water and bouillon cube or soup base. Stir in 1/2 cup flour; whisk until smooth. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer, uncovered, over medium heat (about 15 minutes).

Season with salt and pepper to taste.

To serve: Add gravy to steak and heat on high for 2 minutes. Serve over rice.

Pepper and Onion Steak over Rice

Would give this 50 stars if possible. It is absolutely outstanding! I did not do the rice... simply the steak part & the gravy. I hesitated using brown sugar in the first part... but it definitely does add to this. I did add a small portion from a "dry Au Jus" pk., in the gravy. This is a keeper for sure. This will be a regular. Thanks for submitting.

I have high blood pressure so salt is an issue, but I made this recipe anyway but did not add any salt. I also did not make rice but made the gravy and put it over the meat mixture. I cooked it all on the stove top but then put it in the oven at 300°F and let it cook for about an hour to make sure the meat was tender. It was fantastic. I wasn't sure about the gravy, it was kind of thick, but it was wonderful when I put it over the meat and pepper mixture. I will definitely be making this recipe again and again. Wonderful.....

Was very delicious. Instead of heating up gravy on steaks for two mins we just put everything on.rice than steak than gravy. Was really good.

OMG!!! This recipe rocks. I normally do not cook from scratch using a recipe (I love to bake though ) and this is the first time I tried cooking pepper steak from scratch. It came out great. Even the gravy was good (again 1st time making) this was the sweetest pepper steak I ever had. I'll have to leave my comfort zone more often. Thanks

Last night was my first time ever making pepper steak and it came out great, my family loved it. The only change I made was the amount of brown sugar, I used less.

Bangin' recipe!!! I brought eye of round steak and having never cooked it before I found myself desperate for a decent recipe... once I saw this I got right to work ... substituted Worcestershire sauce wit just a lil A1 and brown sugar with regular sugar.. it came out perfectly.. Amazing dish. I plan on making for Thanksgiving.

Great recipe and it goes well with different varieties of rice. Try this with Basmati, Jasmine or even brown rice. Brown rice is very good for those with diabetes and all rice is gluten free.

Need to know total cook time. When I cooked it, added potatoes, carrots and peas. Took ~45 min total time, and was delicious.

A new family favorite!! I've made this 4 or 5 times now and it is always excellent!!! This first time I made the exact recipe, but since then I have altered it by using peppers only, a variety of green, red, orange and yellow, and I have also used green peppers and pea pods, then pea pods only! Last night I made it extra spicy and added banana peppers, cayenne pepper and smoked tobasco sauce...YUM!! Thank You!!!
