1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
4 c. milk
3 egg yolks
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. butter

Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add milk and cook until thick, stirring continuously. Add egg yolks; stir hot pudding into egg yolks and add to rest of mixture. Add vanilla and butter after it has cooked.

For chocolate pudding, add 2 squares unsweetened chocolate.
