BOSTON BROWN BREAD 
2 c. boiling water
1 c. raisins
2 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs
4 c. flour

Pour water over raisins and put aside to cool. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Add raisins, water, and baking soda followed by flour (nutmeg if desired). Fill 5 greased No. 303 cans half full. Bake 1 hour at 375 degrees. Remove and let stand 10 minutes. The loaves should be easily removed from the can. Yield: 5 loaves.
