BURNT CREAM PIE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cold water
1 c. milk
2 egg yolks
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. vanilla
Baked pie shell
2 egg whites
4 tbsp. sugar

Cook sugar in heavy saucepan, stirring constantly until burned. Add cold water, stir until dissolved. In a small bowl, mix together milk, egg yolks, cornstarch and vanilla. Add to first mixture and cook until thickened. Pour into baked pie shell. Whip egg whites with 4 tablespoons sugar. Pile on pie and brown in oven. This is a very old recipe.
