1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. oats
2 -2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted

Mix together shortening, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Mix together water, baking soda and salt. Stir into egg mixture. Drop onto greased cookie sheet and bake at 400°F for 10 to 20 minutes.
