MACADAMIA, DATE AND YOGURT SCONE 
butter for greasing baking sheet
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. sugar, divided use
5 tbsp. cold butter, cut into sm. pieces
1/2 c. chopped macadamia nuts
1 c. chopped pitted dates
1 (8 oz.) container plain yogurt
Optional: Strawberry butter, recipe follows

Preliminaries: Adjust oven rack to middle position and preheat oven to 425 degrees. Grease a baking sheet with butter.

Procedure: Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a large bowl. Add 2 tablespoons sugar and butter. Blend with fork, 2 knives or a pastry cutter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in nuts and dates. Add yogurt and combine well.

Mound dough in the middle of prepared baking sheet. Pat dough into an 8 inch round; sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 15-20 minutes, or until it is cooked through.

Presentation: Cut into 8 wedges. Allow wedges to cool a few minutes on cooling rack. Serve warm with Strawberry Butter, if desired. Yield: Makes 8 wedges.
