BEEF STEW 
2 to 3 lb. beef cubes
1 tbsp. salt
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Water to cover
Dash or 2 of ground cloves

Brown beef cubes in oil (approximately 20 minutes). Add water to cover. After browning, add all other ingredients. Simmer until completely softened (approximately 2 hours). Add carrots and potatoes (or any vegetables, etc. you wish). Add dumplings to cover.

DUMPLINGS:

1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. shortening (or butter)
3/4 c. milk

Mix flour, baking powder and salt into bowl. Cut in shortening. Stir in milk. Drop by spoonfuls over top of beef stew. Simmer 10 minutes, uncovered then cover and simmer 10 minutes longer.
