BOILED CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
2 c. raisins
Pinch of salt
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda
2 heaping c. flour
Chopped walnuts (optional)

Let all above ingredients, except baking soda and flour, come to a boil. When cool, add 1 teaspoon baking soda and 2 heaping cups of flour. Bake slowly, about 1 hour at 325 degrees. Chopped walnuts may be added, if desired.
