APPLE CAKE DESSERT 
CAKE:

2 c. peeled, diced apples
1 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. flour

SAUCE:

1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
2 tbsp. flour
1 c. water
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Cake: Mix apples and sugar; let stand 10-15 minutes. Add egg, salt, cinnamon and chopped nuts; mix. Sift together soda and flour; stir into mixture. Pour into a well-greased 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.

Sauce: Mix sugars and flour; stir in water, butter and vanilla. Boil 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Pour hot sauce over hot cake; cool. (Slice or poke cake before pouring on the hot sauce, this gives the sauce a better chance to go into the cake.) Serve warm with whipped cream.
