BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. sliced med. cucumbers
6 med. white onions, sliced (6 c.)
2 green peppers, sliced (1 2/3 c.)
3 cloves garlic
1/3 c. granulated pickling salt
5 c. sugar
3 c. cider vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed

Mix cucumbers, onions, green peppers and garlic. Add salt, then cover completely with cracked ice; mix well. Let stand 3 hours; drain and remove garlic. Mix rest of ingredients and pour over cucumber mixture. Bring to a boil.

Fill hot sterilized jars 1/2 inch from top; adjust lids. Process in boiling water bath for 5 minutes. Makes 8 pints. (I always have juice left over, so I use 5 quarts of cucumbers). Certain people I know have been know to eat an entire jar at once time these are so good.
