IRISH BARMBARCK BREAD | |
4 c. sifted flour 2 tbsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 2 1/2 tbsp. butter 1 env. yeast 1 1/4 c. milk, lukewarm 2 eggs, beaten 1 c. white raisins 1/2 c. currants 1/4 c. dark raisins 1. Sift together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. 2. Add butter. 3. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup of milk. 4. Combine remaining milk and egg with yeast mixture. 5. Stir into flour ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon for 10 minutes. 6. Mix in raisins. 7. Turn into a round 2 quart casserole dish. 8. Cover with cloth and let rise 2 hours. 9. Bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes (glass 375 degrees). Use aluminum foil on top to prevent over baking. Top with melted butter as soon as bread comes out of the oven. |
