SCALLOPED POTATOES 
About 3 or 4 Idaho potatoes
1 med. size onion, thinly sliced, separate slices
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 1/2 c. milk
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. half and half
1 c. shredded gruyere cheese

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine potatoes, onions, garlic, milk, salt and pepper in heavy saucepan. Sprinkle with flour, stir to combine. Bring to boil slowly over medium heat, stirring gently. Turn mixture into shallow 2 quart casserole. Drizzle cream (half and half) over casserole and sprinkle with cheese. Bake in very slow 300 degree oven for about 1 hour. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
