2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 eggs
5 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
2 c. applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. chocolate chips
2 c. nuts

Mix the applesauce and soda together. Set aside. Mix sugar, shortening and eggs together. Then add the applesauce and soda mixture. Next add the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt. Mix well. Now add the chocolate chips and nuts. Bake at 400 degrees, 9-12 minutes. Yields 6-8 dozen.
