While above mixture is cooling, combine: 2 tbsp. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. warm water (110-120 degrees) 1/2 c. flour Beat until smooth; cover and let set stand in a warm place for 15 minutes. Combine: Yeast mixture 5 eggs, beaten 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 c. sugar or 1/2 c. honey Add flour to make a soft, but not sticky dough (about 8 cups to begin with and more is added as you knead the dough). Set in warm place and let rise. Punch down and shape into buns, cinnamon or caramel rolls, dinner rolls, kolaces or whatever you like. This is a good, all- purpose dough. Bake at 375 degrees. COCONUT TOPPING FOR KOLACES: 1/2 c. soft butter 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. flour + 1 tbsp. 1 c. grated coconut Sprinkle on top of each kolace and bake as usual. This topping is great on cherry filled kolaces. |
