DATE LOAF 
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 egg, beaten
1 c. boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. butter
2 c. flour, mixed with 1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 (8 oz.) pkg. chopped dates

Sprinkle baking soda on dates and pour boiling water over. When cool add sugar and then add other ingredients. Place in loaf pan and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Stores well.
