DATE LOAF 
3 c. sugar
1/3 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
2 tbsp. butter
1 c. dates, chopped
1 c. nuts, chopped

Cook sugar, salt, milk, butter and dates together until soft ball in cold water. Take from fire, add nuts and beat until stiff. (I add a small jar of maraschino cherries (red) when I add the nuts.) Make in long roll and wrap in wet cloth until cold. Slice.
