FRENCH COFFEE CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/4 lb. butter
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla

STREUSEL TOPPING:

1/2 c. brown sugar
2 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. chopped nutmeats (walnuts or pecans)
2 tbsp. melted butter
1/2 c. chocolate bits (optional)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cream sugar and butter. Add 2 eggs. Mix well. Add flour, baking powder and baking soda. Mix well. Add sour cream and vanilla. Mix well.

Mix streusel topping ingredients together and place on top of cake batter, or divide batter in half and place one third of topping on lower half of cake batter. Then cover with remaining half of butter and place rest of streusel topping on top. Bake in a greased tube pan at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until tester comes out clean.
