1 c. butter or shortening
2 c. sugar
3 c. all-purpose flour
4 eggs
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. flavoring (flavor optional)

Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each one. Add soda to flour and add to mixture, a little at a time. Add 1 teaspoon of favorite flavoring. Beat well for about 2 minutes. Pour into well greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 to 30 minutes or until done. Cool and remove from pan.
