BERTHA FAIRBANKS WILLIAMS'
CEREAL COOKIES
 
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. crushed corn flakes
2 c. rolled oats
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, soda and baking powder; add to first mixture. Crush corn flakes with fingers and mix with oatmeal, raisins and nuts. Combine all. Spoon cookies onto greased sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes in 375 degree oven.

In Michigan, grama Bertha cooked on a wood stove during the early days of her marriage to Charles N. Williams. Later she used a kerosene stove. All baking was done in a small tin oven which she healed over the kerosene burner in there ranch house kitchen in El. Cajun, California.
