KELLY'S CHOCOLATE TOFFEE BARS 
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup shortening (I use Crisco)
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (I use walnuts)

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Cream sugar, butter, shortening, egg and vanilla. Spoon flour into creamed mixture and mix well. Spread on ungreased 10x15-inch jelly roll pan. Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.

Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. Return to oven and bake for 2 minutes more. Spread softened chips evenly over top using spatula. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Cut into bars while warm.
