CHOCOLATE/CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1 pkg. Devil's Food cake mix
2/3 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts (optional)

Mix about half of the cake mix (dry), shortening, eggs and vanilla in large bowl until smooth. Stir in remaining cake mix, chocolate chips and nuts. Drop dough by teaspoons about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet. Makes approximately 5 dozen cookies.
