EGGLESS, BUTTERLESS SPICE CAKE 
2 c. brown sugar
3 c. cold water
1 c. lard or shortening
1 c. raisins
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking soda
2 c. flour

Combine sugar, water, lard, raisins, cinnamon, cloves and salt. Boil for 15 minutes and cool until cold. Then add baking soda and flour. The batter will be about the consistency of drop cookies. Put into loaf pans and bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes.
