HOMEMADE BREAD 
5 3/4 - 6 1/2 c. plain flour
2 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
3 tbsp. sugar
1 pkg. dry yeast
Butter

In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Meanwhile, scald milk, 1 1/2 cups water, and 3 tablespoons butter until very warm. Mix at low speed, gradually pouring liquid into dry ingredients. Increase to medium speed and beat 2 minutes.

Add 1/2 cup flour, and beat another 2 minutes. Stir in additional flour to make soft dough. Knead 10 minutes. Rise 1 hour in warm place; punch down. Cut in half and shape into 2 loaves. Cover 15 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Remove from pans and brush with butter.
