HOMEMADE BREAD
2 c. milk
2 yeast cakes
1/2 c. warm water
1 1/2 c. potato water
4 eggs (optional)
2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
Approximately 12 c. flour
1/2 c. melted shortening

Have all ingredients at room temperature. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add all ingredients except flour. Add flour, bit at a time, until good consistency, not too sticky. Let raise in greased bowl until doubled.

Place on floured board. Divide into 4. Knead each, place in greased loaf pans. Let raise until doubled. Bake at 375 to 400 degrees until done. (Take out of pan, knock on bottom, if it sounds hollow, it is done.) Turn loaves out on cooling racks and brush with melted butter.
