HOMEMADE BREAD 
1/2 c. milk
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. butter
1 env. active dry yeast
1 1/2 c. warm water
6 1/2 - 7 c. flour

Pour milk into saucepan. Heat over medium heat until bubbles form around edge. Remove from heat and stir in sugar, salt, and butter. Cool to lukewarm.

Sprinkle yeast over warm water in large bowl. Let stand 1-2 minutes, then stir to dissolved. Add milk mixture and 3 cups flour. Beat with wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in 3-4 cups more flour to make a stiff dough. Knead dough on floured board 8-10 minutes. Place in oiled bowl; grease top slightly; cover with towel. Let rise 1 hour. Punch down and let rise again 1 hour. Bake at 400 degrees in 2 loaf pans for 25-30 minutes.
