CRUSTLESS APPLE PIE
6 med. apples
1/3 to 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. water
3/8 c. shortening (part butter for flavor)
1/2 c. brown sugar (packed)
1 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt

Peel apples and cut into eighths. Place in saucepan with sugar, cinnamon and water; cook about 10 minutes (until partially done). Place in deep greased 9 inch pie pan (or baking dish, if preferred).

Cream shortening, add brown sugar gradually and cream well.

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together, and add to creamed mixture, working it in with the hands until completely mixed. Sprinkle over apples, in pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Serve with plain or whipped cream, if desired.
