ORANGE BREAD 
2 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. dates
1 c. hot water
2 eggs
4 tbsp. shortening
1 1/4 c. sugar
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. fresh or frozen orange juice
2 c. orange candy slices, cut up
1 c. nuts

Combine soda, dates, and hot water. Set aside. Add eggs, shortening, and sugar. Cream. Add to date mix. Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add date mixture to dry mixture along with orange juice, candy, and nuts. Bake in greased and floured bread pans at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
