SAUSAGE & BASIL BAKED ZITI
1/2 (16 oz.) pkg. ziti or penne pasta (about 3 cups)
1 (16-19 oz.) pkg. sausage links or ground sausage (I use Johnsonville Italian)
2 (15 oz. ea.) cans tomato sauce (Hunts)
1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
2 eggs
1 (15 oz.) tub Ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded Mozzarella cheese, divided
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup chopped fresh basil, divided
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. oregano

Cook pasta according to package directions; drain.

In a large skillet, cook and crumble the sausage meat over medium heat until no longer pink; drain.

Mix in both cans of tomato sauce, tomato paste, 1/4 cup basil, onion powder, garlic powder and oregano together. Set aside.

In a mixing bowl combine eggs, Ricotta cheese, 1 cup of Mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese. Fold pasta into cheese mix.

In a greased 13x9x2-inch baking dish, layer half of the pasta mix then half of the meat sauce. Repeat layers.

Cover and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes or until heated through and bubbly. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup Mozzarella cheese.

Bake uncovered, for 5 to 10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup basil.

Serves 6.
