RALEIGH'S IRISH SODA BREAD | |
4 c. sifted all purpose flour 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 2 tbsp. caraway seeds 1/4 c. butter 2 c. seedless raisins 1 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 egg 1 tsp. baking soda Place 4 cups of flour into large bowl, sugar, salt and baking powder. Stir in caraway seeds. Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until it resembles coarse corn meal. Stir in raisins, combine buttermilk, egg and soda. Stir buttermilk into flour mixture until just moistened. (When bread is made in the home in Ireland - soda is used instead of yeast - hence the name). |
