IRISH SODA BREAD 
4 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. butter
1 egg
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
2 c. raisins

Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda. Rub in butter. Beat egg and buttermilk together and add to mixture to make soft dough; add raisins. Turn onto lightly floured board and knead for one minute. Shape into round cake, mark with a cross and bake for 50 minutes at 325 degrees until brown and firm.
