OLD ENGLISH TOFFEE 
1 lb. butter
2 c. white sugar
6 tbsp. water
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 lb. sweet chocolate
1 c. finely chopped nuts

Cook butter, sugar, and water on medium heat until it reaches 300 degrees on a candy thermometer, about 45 minutes. Add 1 cup chopped nuts and vanilla. Pour into well buttered cookie sheet. Shave the sweet chocolate over the hot toffee. Sprinkle with 1 cup finely chopped nuts. Break into pieces when cool.
