MATRIMONIAL CAKE 
1 1/4 c. flour
3/4 c. butter
1 1/4 c. ground rolled oats
1 c. brown sugar

FILLING:

1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. brown sugar
2 c. chopped pitted dates
1 c. water

Mix dry ingredients and cut in butter. Cook filling until thick. Spread half first mixture into greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Cover with filling and top with remaining crumb mixture. Bake 1 hour at 300 degrees. When cool, cut into squares.
