STRING BEAN SOUP 
Ham
Water, 3 qts., sometimes add more, 4 to 6 c.
1 qt. tomatoes
2 qts. beans, string
2 lg. onions, sliced
5 or 6 lg. potatoes, sliced
1 pt. cream or half & half
Vinegar to taste (opt.)
Thickening (flour & water)
Sm. pieces of ham

Boil picnic ham for stock. I let sit overnight to take off grease. Boil beans, tomatoes, onion for about 1/2 hour, then add potatoes and boil 20 minutes more. Make thickening, pour in soup. Add cream (I heat cream in microwave until warm before adding to soup). Add vinegar and ham pieces. Let simmer for 1/2 to 1 hour.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
