ENGLISH TOFFEE 
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
3 tbsp. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. finely chopped pecans (not ground)
4 7/8 oz. plain chocolate candy bars

Mix sugar, butter, and water and cook over medium heat to 300 degrees, stirring constantly, then add vanilla and nuts. Spread in a buttered baking dish. Lay chocolate bars on top and spread evenly as they melt.
