CANDY CANE COOKIES 
PART 1:

Mix together thoroughly.

BOWL A:

1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. confectioners'sugar
3/4 tsp. almond extract
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. beaten egg

BOWL B:

1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
3/4 tsp. peppermint extract
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. beaten egg

Use only 1 egg, beaten, approximately 2 teaspoons.

PART 2:

Mix together and stir into each bowl 1 1/4 cups sifted flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. To Bowl B add 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring.

Roll 1 teaspoon each color dough into a strip about 4 inches long. Place strips side by side, press lightly together and twist like rope. Curve top down to form handle of cane. Sprinkle crushed peppermint and sugar. Use ungreased cookie sheet, bake at 375 degrees, for 9 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
