GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 1 c. melted butter 1/2 tsp. salt 3 eggs, well beaten 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. buttermilk 2 1/2 c. flour 1 pkg. German sweet chocolate 1/2 c. boiling water Sift together dry ingredients. In small saucepan break up chocolate and stir in boiling water, melting chocolate and mixing well. Add remaining ingredients to dry sifted ingredients and blend well. Bake at 325 degrees until done. Makes 4 (8 inch) layers. ICING: 1 stick butter 1 c. evaporated milk 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar 3 egg yolks 1 tbsp. vanilla 1 c. chopped pecans 1 sm. can coconut Melt butter in saucepan. Add milk, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla; blending well. Cook over medium heat, stirring to prevent scorching. Cook for 12 minutes or until thick. Beat and add pecans and coconut. Frost cake. |
